Entry 1: Getting Started

It is nearing the end of Week 3 and I am finally sitting down to begin this information search blog.  While the demands of work and life in general (as well as my tendency to engage in serious procrastination!) have been part of the reason for me beginning this blog rather late into the semester, I think I have also been experiencing the feelings of uncertainty and apprehension that Kuhlthau (2007) suggests are characteristic of the initiation stage of the Information Search Process.  I have been feeling overwhelmed as I have been trying to grapple with, what is for me, a new Web 2.0 tool and with how to establish my blogging identity, as well as trying to get my head around the various tasks that we are required to complete for this course.

This week I have been able to finalise my project context and I now have a clear understanding of the Information Learning Activity that I will be using for my report.  Finalising my project context has given me the stability and direction that I need to be able to begin some serious research.  This seems to correlate with the second stage of the Information Search Process - selection.  In line with Kuhlthau's model, my thought patterns are becoming clearer and I am feeling more optimistic about the task and what is required.  Hopefully now it will full steam ahead!

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
